El Vuelo Libre inici� en Guatemala a finales de los 70�s. Sus pioneros fueron Fernando Linares Beltranena y Aroldo Rodr�guez. En ese tiempo fundaron una escuela que atrajo a no pocas personas, algunas de las cuales todav�a practican, incluido el mismo Fernando. En 1979 organizaron un Mundial de Vuelo Libre en el �rea del lago de Atitlan (foto de fondo). El ganador deb�a pegarle al Spot Landing (as� se compet�a en esos d�as), llev�ndose el primer lugar Malcolm Jones actual propietario de Wallaby Ranch .

Por esas mismas fechas se fund� la Asociaci�n Nacional de Vuelo Libre, perteneciente a la Confederaci�n Deportiva Aut�noma de Guatemala ( CDAG). Se exploraron despegues e hicieron rampas.

Desde esa fecha, muchos nuevos pilotos llegaron y muchos se fueron. Ha habido competencias Nacionales, y los mejores pilotos han tenido oportunidad de viajar a competir a Sudam�rica, Estado Unidos, M�xico y Europa.

Actualmente pertenecen a la Asociaci�n Nacional alrededor de 30 pilotos.

Just a little of history of Guatemala Hang Gliding

Hang gliding began in Guatemala in the late 70.. Its pioneers were Fernando Linares Beltranena and Aroldo Rodriguez. In these time they funded a HG school, that attracted not few prospects, some of which continue to practice, including Fernando himself. In 1979 they organized a Hang Gliding World meet in Lake Atitalan Guatemala (picture in the background). The winner would be the one to hit the Spot landing (that was the sort of competition in those days), winning the first place Malcolm Jones, the actual owner of Wallaby Ranch.. Around those years, Guatemala Hang Gliding Association was funded, belonging and patronized by the CDAG (Autonomous Sports Confederation of Guatemala). Lots of flying sites were explored, and many take off ramps were built. Since those days many new pilots came and many left. We have had many National Championships, and the best pilots have traveled to compete in South America, USA, and Europe. Today around 30 pilots belong to the National Association, and many don�t although all have past through it.
